Dwight Yorke has urged Arsenal to make a stunning £100m bid for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak after missing out on Benjamin Sesko.
Arsenal and Chelsea both expressed interest in signing Sesko but the Slovenia striker decided to stay at RB Leipzig, putting pen to paper on a new deal with the German club.
Yorke believes it was ‘strange’ that Sesko snubbed interest from the Premier League to stay put and says Arsenal must now ‘go all out’ for Isak.
The Sweden international has established himself as one of Newcastle United’s most important players over the last two seasons, scoring 35 goals in 67 matches to help Eddie Howe’s side climb up the Premier League table.
Yorke says Isak would take no time at all to adapt to Mikel Arteta’s style of play and strengthen an Arsenal team that relied on Kai Havertz up front for much of last season.
Arsenal are expected to sign a new striker this summer, with the club ready to back Arteta once more in the transfer market after back-to-back second-place finishes in the Premier League.
‘It’s strange that Benjamin Sesko decided to stay at RB Leipzig and reject the likes of Arsenal,’ Yorke told Best Payout Online Slots. ‘He’s getting to the age where he should have made a move to the Premier League, early into his career so he can have some experience of British football under his belt.
‘Arsenal need to go all out for Alexander Isak now, they need someone like him because they came up short in the striker position.
‘Arsenal will need to invest around £100m for Isak because that will be how much Newcastle will value him at, I can’t imagine it being any less.
‘Kai Havertz was very useful to Arsenal last season, but they need someone like Isak instead of him at the striker position.
‘Arsenal need a signing of that magnitude, like how Erling Haaland came to Man City and was scoring goals for fun, I think Isak can do the same.
‘Luckily for Arsenal, it works because Isak already has two years of Premier League experience and will adapt like it’s nothing.’
Isak, 24, played down the speculation over his future when asked about the transfer links earlier in the month, insisting he is ‘very happy’ at Newcastle.
He told Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen: ‘I’m enjoying myself very, very much in Newcastle.
‘I just had the best season of my career. That should not be underestimated. I love everything really about the club, the fans, the city.
‘I actually have no thoughts of a move or anything like that. I enjoy myself fantastically well and am very happy with my life.’
Pressed on the reported interest from Arsenal, Isak added: ‘It is not something I am speculating on.
‘Within the team and the club there has been no talk or drama around it. I have not received any information from the club that they would need to sell me.’
