Wilshere took up the role in July 2022 and took his side to the final of the FA Youth Cup during his first season in charge.

He now appears to be keen on returning to the senior game as The Daily Record report he has applied for the Aberdeen job.

The Dons, who sacked Barry Robson earlier in the week, finished third in the Scottish Premiership last season, but now sit eighth in the table.

Peter Leven took interim charge on Saturday when they sealed a 1-1 draw against league leaders and reigning champions Celtic.

Wilshere has allegedly registered his interest in taking over, however the Scottish news outlet suggests that his inexperience could restrict his chances of success.

Ex-Celtic boss Neil Lennon has also been linked with the job, as well as Neil Warnock and Alex Neil.

Aberdeen are not the first club that Wilshere has been speculated with as he continues to progress in the world of coaching.

talkSPORT reported in October that he was interviewed by MLS side Colorado Rapids, who went on to appoint Chris Armas as head coach.

Wilshere currently has his Arsenal youngsters sitting third in the U18 Premier League table with seven wins from 12 games this season.

However, they were knocked out of the U18 Premier League Cup by Manchester United on Saturday in a 4-2 quarter-final defeat.

The ex-Gunner could therefore be set to remain in charge until the end of the season.

It's clear that he's setting his sights on senior management, but could end up disappointed with his Aberdeen application.
