As Political Climate Heats Up, Late-Night Returns

There was nothing going on in terms of American or international politics over the last few weeks that late-night would have got its teeth into, right?

The majority of late-night hosts were enjoyed some time off over the last couple of weeks, but the likes of Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon are back in the studio and ready to dig into the news of the day.

Will they find time to discuss the state of the U.S. Presidential Election, President Biden’s debate performance and the subsequent calls for him to exit the race and former President Trump’s own debate performance, his ties to Project 2025 and his search for a Vice President?

The Late Show will have some guests on this week that will be able to help. Tonight, the CBS show will have CNN anchor Abby Phillip on, alongside Michael Douglas and a dog adoption segment featuring Antony Starr, Chace Crawford and Colby Minifie.

Later in the week, Stephen Colbert will be joined by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who has been talked up as a potential Presidential candidate, on Wednesday as well as CNN’s Jake Tapper on Thursday. Elsewhere, Serena Williams, Andrew McCarthy and Martha Stewart will also be on the show.

The other shows won’t be quite as political with its guests, but Fallon and Meyers are also returning with the latter undoubtedly tasking writer Sal Gentile with a packed version of A Closer Look.

Late Night with Seth Meyers will have Whoopi Goldberg on the show on Wednesday with the likes of Tyler Perry, Alex Cooper, Rashida Jones, Antony Starr, Julia Phillips also on the show this week.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon will feature guests including Scarlett Johansson, Joey King, Rita Ora, Hannah Berner, Channing Tatum, Common, Pete Rock, Keith Robinson, Kevin Jonas and musical guests Sublime and Phish this week.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be hosted by Agatha All Along star Kathryn Hahn this week as Kimmel enjoys another long summer. She will be joined by Adam Scott, Mia Goth, Peyton Manning, Emma Roberts, Seth Rogen and Joe Locke with musical performances from Faye Webster, The War And Treaty and Cigarettes After Sex ahead of Kumail Nanjiani taking over the show on Thursday.

Jon Stewart hosts The Daily Show tonight with A.J. Jacobs, author of The Year of Living Constitutionally, with Desi Lydic and Jordan Klepper taking on dual duties behind the desk for the rest of the week. The pair will have the likes of Aasif Mandvi and The Fall of Roe authors Elizabeth Dias and Lisa Lerer on before doing dark on Thursday ahead of the Comedy Central show’s Indecision 2024 coverage at the Republican National Convention next week.

Colbert will also be live next week as the Milwaukee event takes place between July 15-18.
