He is one of the prestigious arrivals on the Roma side this summer. Arriving after the summer market closed, Mats Hummels will strengthen the Giallorossi defense alongside Mario Hermoso, who also arrived on a free transfer after the end of the transfer window. Courted by many teams this summer after a remarkable season with Borussia Dortmund, the German defender explained his choice in an interview with the club’s media this Friday:

For me it’s a really important transfer and I’m looking forward to this experience. I was looking forward to playing for this team, for this club, in front of the fans at the Olympic Stadium. As a child I grew up after Roma, especially Totti and my new coach, when I was younger I played against De Rossi, I’m very happy to be here and to be part of this club. (…) I’ll be up and running in two or three weeks.»
