AS Roma: Things are also going bad for Florent Ghisolfi…

This news, even Daniele De Rossi did not see it coming. Yesterday, it was not even 9am when AS Roma made official the sudden departure of its coach. Arriving that very morning at the Trigoria training center, DDR was going to prepare the reception of Udinese when he was summoned to the office of his superiors to learn that he was relieved of his duties. Sixteenth in the Serie A standings after three nights and one defeat in four matches, Roma is not having the best start to the season in its history and is only three points from seventh place, but the Friedkins have clearly not had any patience with the club icon.

Of course, this unexpected departure shocked more than one person and many Giallorossi supporters have shown their support for De Rossi. Since then, Ivan Juric has succeeded him, but calm is far from having returned to Trigoria. Because another man is now causing a stir: the Frenchman Florent Ghisolfi. A miracle worker at RC Lens, the young 39-year-old sporting director saw his career take off after his time at Nice and his arrival at AS Roma last May. Very quickly, Ghisolfi had also managed to win over the Roman supporters by signing several notable moves in the transfer window (Le Fée, Soulé). But today, the time when the tifosi came to congratulate him at Rome airport is already over. And what was considered a success a few weeks ago has become a flaw.

Juric, the savior of Ghisolfi?

Concretely, many wonder why only De Rossi paid the price for this radical decision by the Friedkins. And therefore why Ghisolfi was spared after having spent nearly €100 million (to bring in Artem Dovbyk, Matias Soulé, Enzo Le Fée and Angeliño among others) for inconclusive results. And in Rome, discontent is growing. Former coach of the club’s youth teams, Ezio Sella has not been kind to the Frenchman. “I think the Friedkins bet on both Daniele and Ghisolfi, so at this point I imagine he is also in danger. Because the transfer window was also made by Ghisolfi, I don’t think it was made by the Friedkins. At this point it would be fairer for Ghisolfi to resign if they think the problem is bad signings.”he said on Sportitalia.

Former Roma striker (from 1978 to 1989), Roberto Pruzzo shares this feeling. “Is Florent Ghisolfi’s position also under threat? I think so. I think we had a confusing transfer window. We spent exorbitant amounts of money and after a month, we didn’t really know which direction to go in.”he confided to Radio Radio. Will Juric be able to get Ghisolfi out of this mess? As a reminder, the Frenchman wanted the Italian team to switch to a 3-5-2 formation when De Rossi maintained his 4-3-3. With Juric, things may change, because the former Torino coach often had the Piedmontese team play in a tactical scheme close to the one wanted by Ghisolfi for Roma.
