Aston Villa are reportedly eyeing up a potential free transfer move for Leicester City defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.

The experienced Nigeria international has just won the Championship title with Leicester, helping them win promotion back to the Premier League for next season after a year in the second tier.

Still, Ndidi’s contract is up this summer and there’s reportedly no sign of him putting pen to paper on a new deal for the moment, putting Villa on alert.

Ndidi has been linked with even bigger clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham in the past, but it’s fair to say his stock has fallen a little in recent times.

Still, the 27-year-old looks like a fine option on a free this summer, and he’d provide great depth to Unai Emery’s midfield for next season.

Villa are also eyeing up another free agent in the form of Mario Hermoso, who is on his way out of Atletico Madrid this summer.

Leicester fans would be disappointed to see Ndidi leave after his great service at the King Power Stadium, but he may now be signalling that he’s open to a new challenge, while a move to Villa Park would also present him with an exciting opportunity to play in the Champions League.
