Asuka wants to return to the squared circle but she’s not physically ready yet. She will continue entertaining fans with memes in the meantime.
Asuka has been sidelined with a knee injury since May. Her last match was at WWE Backlash in France, where she and IYO SKY lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship to Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair. Asuka was originally scheduled to compete in the 2024 Queen of the Ring tournament, but Dakota Kai replaced her due to the unfortunate injury.
She had surgery to repair her knee, but the exact nature of the injury was not disclosed. Asuka posted a video update on her YouTube channel in June and said she had surgery, and her doctors said it was a success.
While she has been sidelined, “The Empress of Tomorrow” has maintained a relationship with her fans by sharing entertaining memes and edits.
She is still rehabbing her knee, as evidenced by a recent reply to a fan on Twitter. @MechaOni said, “We gotta get Asuka back in the ring. She’s been going crazy with these edits the last few months.”
“I’m in the middle of treatment for my knee and can’t get in the ring, Asuka replied. “So I just entertain everyone on Twitter.”
Despite being out of action, Mike Johnson of PWInsider, recently reported that Asuka signed a new, long-term deal with WWE. The terms of her new contract were not disclosed.
Asuka signed with WWE in 2015. She is a five-time Women’s Championship (in WWE and NXT), and she is a four-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion. In addition, she also won the Women’s Money in the Bank and the Women’s Royal Rumble matches.
The timeframe for Asuka’s return to WWE is currently unknown.
