Mr Patrick Banor, the Member of Parliament representing the Asutifi North Constituency in the Ahafo Region, has successfully enrolled 3,000 individuals from the area into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Previously, he facilitated the registration of 2,500 constituents from the Gambia, Kenyasi No. 1, Ntotroso, Goamu, and Kenyasi No. 2 zones into the NHIS, aiming to enhance the financial accessibility and affordability of healthcare for local residents.
The enrollment initiative encompasses both the registration of new members and the renewal of existing memberships, along with additional benefits such as verifying validity status, linking NHIS cards to Ghana cards, and integrating with the digital registration platforms of the scheme.
In an interview with journalists at the various mobile registration centres in Kenyasi No 1 and Kenyasi No 2 on Tuesday, Mr Patrick Banor expressed his commitment to achieving a 100 per cent enrollment in the health scheme within the constituency.
The Member of Parliament highlighted that the residents of Asutifi North have placed their trust in him through their votes over the past seven years, expecting him to implement results-driven policies and programmes that promote socio-economic development.
He said the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was a social intervention initiative launched by the Ghanaian government in 2003, aimed at providing financial access to quality healthcare for all residents and visitors in Ghana.
Mr Barnor praised the significant accomplishments of the New Patriotic Party government over the last seven years, asserting that they have effectively managed the resources entrusted to them and appealing for another term to continue advancing development and achieving further progress.
“As your dedicated representative, I have delivered commendably during my tenure as MP for Asutifi North. I am actively engaged in significant projects and programmes, and I will continue to strive for more in my third term in Parliament,” he stated.
Mr Joseph Sarkodie, the District Manager for Asutifi North and South at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), commended the MP’s initiative to promote the health of residents, noting that future generations will appreciate his efforts.
He urged individuals, organisations, and other stakeholders in the Ahafo Region to follow Mr Banor’s example in prioritising the well-being of constituents, emphasizing that health is indeed wealth.
The Manager reiterated that the NHIS is a permanent fixture and called for collective efforts to maintain the policy, which aims to ensure affordable and accessible healthcare, with the goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.
Mr Sarkodie indicated that the NHIS comes with numerous benefit package including Out – Patient Services (OPD) both General and Specialist, in-patient services, oral health services, eye care services, maternity care and emergencies.
“New inclusion in the benefits package includes childhood cancer care and family planning services. Healthcare for patients above 70 years and SSNIT contributors are free of charge,” he noted.
The Manager implored residents of the area to use the various digital platforms of the scheme namely MyNHIS App on Google Play and *929# to renew their membership and link their NHIS cards to Ghana card.
Obaapanyini Ama Amponsah, a beneficiary from Kenyasi No 2, hailed Mr Patrick Banor for his unprecedented social intervention policies initiated in the constituency in his tenure emphasizing “a good term deserves another”.
A hairdresser and beneficiary of the exercise from Kenyasi No 1, Mariama Gado, eulogised the MP for the massive infrastructure development on education, health, water and sanitation, sports and recreation, youth employment among other sectors of the economy.
