Disauthority Completes Supernatural Drama ‘Homonym

London-based producer and post house Disauthority has completed filming on a supernatural horror, Homonym. The story, which filmed between January 17-19 in East London, UK, is directed by Lily Howkins (EastEnders) and stars Nykiya Adams (Bird), Anna Burnett (Darkest Hour, Falling), Tristan Sturrock (Doc Martin, Poldark) and Louis Martin (Secret Level, The Sandman). Plot is set against a backdrop of police negligence in the late 1990s and follows a real-life account of a woman forced to request social housing due to explicable and dangerous occurrences in her own house. The plan is to use the shoot a proof of concept for a feature film production. “It poses the question of how institutions might respond to a seemingly impossible story and how life-changing the effects can be for a victim whose testimony simply is not believed,” said Disauthority CEO Marcus Hundsnes. “It’s a valuable addition to our slate, and a crucial subject to give a platform to amidst the global rise of violence against women.”

Screen Producers Australia Names First Council Chair

Kate Carnell will be the first Chair of the Screen Producers Australia (SPA) council. Knowing for championing small- to-medium-sized businesses (SMEs), she will advocate for Australian producers and drive policy initiatives. Many of the SPA’s members fit the bill as SMEs, and are facing a market where a glut of international productions has somewhat masked the tough conditions for local producers, who have seen tariffs fall and broadcasters become more risk-averse as the global economic climate continues to wobble and streamers hold back on spend while regulation is implemented. “Kate’s unparalleled experience in championing SMEs and deep connection to the screen sector make her the ideal choice as our inaugural Chair,” said SPA Council President Tracey Vieira. “At a time when our industry faces significant challenges — particularly around our industry getting a fair go in the new online streaming era, Kate’s leadership will be critical to ensuring the voices of our members are heard, and Australian stories continue to thrive.”
