Athena made history in Ring of Honor this week.

The ROH Women’s Champion became the longest-reigning champion in the company’s history this week. On September 15th, she overtook Samoa Joe‘s record of 646 days as a champion in ROH, and her record-breaking reign keeps growing bigger and bigger.

Athena won the ROH Women’s World Championship by beating Mercedes Martinez at ROH Final Battle 2022. In her dominant reign, she has beaten a number of challengers from all over the world. These include stars like Willow Nightingale, Hikaru Shida and many more.

As it stands, she has defended the ROH Women’s title 22 times. This includes defenses at shows put on by AEW, ROH and Prestige Wrestling. It certainly makes her the most dominant wrestler in ROH, and it seems certain that she’ll move to AEW once she finally drops the belt to a worthy challenger.

After making history by beating Samoa Joe’s record, Athena took to Twitter to make a statement.

The ROH Women’s Champion thanked all of her “minions” for supporting her during this reign. She even thanked the trolls for motivating her, while naming herself as the “Best in the World”.

She opened the message by stating that she was struggling what to write, an out-of-character moment for Athena.

@ringofhonor I have tried to write this a billion times and figure out the right words to say and i still dont think i know what to say… But it boils down to this I am thankful for my minions that have supported me. I am thankful for all the trolls that give me the motivation to prove them wrong. I am thankful to every hussy I have beaten along the way to show everyone that I am the THE BEST IN THE WORLD!!!! With love and anger, Athena”
