A breaking report earlier today indicated that Barcelona had received the green light from top transfer target Nico Williams to pursue his signing this summer.

Needless to say, the report generated serious chatter and caught attention as it possibly marked the end of the Catalans’ seemingly endless pursuit of the young winger.

Mundo Deportivo, in a recent update however, reveal that no such green light has been provided by the player as of now. In fact, Nico is yet to respond to Barcelona’s proposal.

The Euro 2024 winner is back training with Athletic Club ahead of the new campaign and is facing intense internal pressure to stay at the club for one season. In fact, it appeared close to confirmed that the player would stay a few days ago.

Waiting game

Barcelona, however, have stuck around patiently and remain optimistic of their chances of pulling off a transfer this summer.

The Spanish outlet also further reports that while Nico is still the Blaugrana’s primary target for the left-wing, they hope to finalise the deal before August 24th when they take on Athletic Club in La Liga.

The coming week, thus, will be decisive for the youngster’s future. If Nico plays against Getafe for the Basque side in their league opener, they will consider the saga closed and look for alternatives.

As it stands, Barcelona are working on keeping the finances ready for the big move in case the green light arrives in the coming days. The deal will cost the club close to €62 million and the club maintain that the finances will not be a hurdle.
