The Spokesperson for the 2023 Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign, Chibuike Uloka, has condemned Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for the ongoing insecurity and killings in the state.

In a press statement issued on Monday, Uloka called for Soludo’s resignation, claiming that the governor’s tenure has been characterised by “failure” and that he no longer has any justification to remain in office.

The statement read, “For nearly six months, I have refrained from making any political commentary concerning the Anambra State Government.

This was both for personal reasons and to allow Governor Chukwuma Soludo ample time to assemble his team and execute his vision for the state effectively.

“Regrettably, it has become evident that despite the time given, Prof. Soludo has not demonstrated the capacity or clarity required to deliver meaningful change. With a heavy heart, I must now call for the resignation of Governor Soludo. His tenure has been marked by failure, and he no longer has any justification to continue leading Anambra State.”

Uloka highlighted that the primary responsibility of any government is to safeguard its citizens’ lives.

He accused Governor Soludo, who was sworn into office on March 18, 2022, of failing to uphold the oath he took, as enshrined in the 5th and 7th schedules of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In light of these failures, he urged Soludo to step down and allow the Deputy Governor to assume leadership until new elections can be held.

Uloka, a former Senior Special Assistant for Media to the Anambra State government between 2019 and 2021, cited the recent tragic events in Nibo Community, Awka South Local Government Area, where innocent citizens were brutally murdered, as evidence of a breakdown in governance.

“The recent tragic events in Nibo Community, Awka South Local Government Area, where innocent citizens were brutally massacred, leaving countless families shattered, reflect a glaring absence of governance,” he said.

He criticised attempts to downplay the atrocity as mere cult-related violence, stating that it indicates a government disconnected from the realities on the ground.

“If such insecurity can take place in Nibo, a community just a few miles from the Governor’s Lodge and the Police Headquarters, it only highlights the alarming level of insecurity in the state,” he added.

According to Uloka, human life in Anambra has been devalued, with daily reports of kidnappings and killings.

He noted that during Soludo’s nearly three-year tenure, there has been a disturbing rise in violence, raising concerns about the governor’s ability to protect the people.

“How many more must die before decisive action is taken? It is only a matter of time before the Federal Government may be forced to declare a state of emergency in Anambra.”

Uloka called on Soludo to do the honourable thing by resigning and issuing a formal apology for the violence and insecurity that have plagued the state under his watch.

“I sympathise with the entire Nibo community, the people of Awka South, and Anambra State in general. This is one too many. I urge the security agencies to act swiftly. The only solace for the over 10 innocent lives lost and the families they left behind will be in bringing all perpetrators of this heinous and inhuman crime to justice,” he added.

In response, Soludo’s Media Aide, Ejiofor Ejike, dismissed Uloka’s claims, asserting that the governor is effectively managing Anambra and that insecurity has been reduced to the barest minimum.

“It’s unfortunate what happened in Nibo community yesterday (Sunday). The state government and security agencies have vowed to hunt the perpetrators and further address insecurity. Those criticising the state government don’t know what they are saying,” he added.
