Atletico Madrid are reportedly looking to position themselves for the signing of Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, though Juventus are also interested in the Morocco international.

The Red Devils signed Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina in the summer but it’s fair to say that it now seems unlikely he’s going to stay at Old Trafford after a lack of impact for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Fabrizio Romano recently told CaughtOffside that Amrabat’s future has not been finalised yet, with no formal communication to the player or to Fiorentina yet, though he acknowledged it’s possible that the 27-year-old won’t be staying on beyond his loan this season.

Now a report from Todo Fichajes states that Atletico and Juve are among Amrabat’s suitors ahead of the summer, with the Spanish side perhaps looking the slight favourites.

The report states that Diego Simeone’s side tried to sign Amrabat last summer before United pounced to sign him late on, so it could be that they’ll now try again to get this deal over the line.

MUFC surely need to move on from Amrabat and try something different in midfield, even if that is just giving a more prominent role to talented youngster Kobbie Mainoo.

Mainoo has very quickly established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in the country since coming into Ten Hag’s first-team, and it may be that he’ll save the club a fortune in the transfer market.

United have so often spent big on flops like Amrabat, who arrive as big names but fail to deliver, and it might be wise to instead give more opportunities to talented homegrown players like Mainoo.

Amrabat has plenty to offer, though, so one hopes he can revive his career after this difficult spell in England.
