Five days after the facts, the imbroglio of the penalty shootout has still not passed on the side of Atlético de Madrid. This Sunday, the president of the Club Enrique Cerezo complained about Mr. Marciniak's decision to cancel the Alvarez penalty in the middle of the decisive penalty session against Real Madrid. “Until Wednesday evening, we were ready for the three competitions: the Champions League, the King's Cup and the Liga. But that day, an incident with a device, a system, or a terrifying tool cut short one of our biggest dreams, which was to continue in the Champions League ”prevailed by Colchoneros.

It goes even further, by calling into question the very usefulness of video refereeing in football. “The Var is a controversial tool, it is not sure and, above all, we all think that it has been introduced to make football fairer, but I think it was introduced to make it more unfair”criticized Cerezo in an interview on Telemundo Deportes. A few weeks after a forum signed by many Spanish clubs asking for the withdrawal of the Var, that will fuel the debates on its legitimacy.
