The situation surrounding Vince McMahon’s resignation from his roles within TKO, including Executive Chairman and the Board of Directors, continues to escalate following the lawsuit filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant. The lawsuit alleges McMahon’s involvement in a sex trafficking and abuse scandal, with John Laurinaitis and WWE also listed as defendants.
One significant aspect of the case is the NDAs signed by several women, including Grant, which were created and signed without WWE’s knowledge. McMahon reportedly paid $1 million of the $3 million agreed upon, potentially rendering any such agreement null and void.
Grant’s attorney, Ann Callis, mentioned to Newsnation that McMahon stepping away from WWE is not sufficient in her client’s eyes. Grant’s pursuit of justice is driven by her desire to change the culture within WWE and support other victims. She hopes that by speaking out and coming forward, it will empower and encourage others to share their experiences.
“(Grant) wants justice because she wants to change the culture that is going on in the WWE. She wants to help other victims. She thinks by speaking out and coming forward first, that others will feel emboldened and encouraged to come forth,” Callis said.
The attorney also hinted at the possibility of more victims coming forward due to the allegations and civil lawsuit against the involved parties. Grant’s case has shed light on the issues within the wrestling industry, particularly the treatment of women, and it is expected to have broader implications as it unfolds.
“My office and my inbox have had a barrage of people wanting to come forward to attest about this culture of corruption and also possible victims. We are just beginning now to wade through all this, but we’re frankly overwhelmed.”
How do you think Janel Grant’s lawsuit and the allegations against Vince McMahon will impact the wrestling industry and its treatment of women in the future? Let us know in the comments.
