Austin Abrams In Zach Cregger’s Sights For ‘Resident Evil’ At Sony

The Wolfs actor Zach Cregger‘s is in early talks to star reboot of the Constantin-Sony feature take of the Capcom videogame, Resident Evil.

The WME-repped Abrams is also known for playing Ethan Lewis on HBO’s Euphoria.

The latest iteration of Resident Evil, which pays homage to the original horror videogame’s roots, is ramping up for a Sept. 18, 2026 theatrical release. Cregger co-wrote the script with Shay Hatten.

The remake of Cregger’s Resident Evil went out to the town, and had Warner Bros interested at one point, however, Sony made sure the $1.2 billion grossing franchise stayed at the Culver City lot.

Constantin Film is producing and co-financing the film. Constantin’s Robert Kulzer, Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee (BarbarianMinecraft) and Miri Yoon (Woman of the Hour, Weapons) and PlayStation Productions are also producing.

Nicole Brown will be overseeing the latest iteration of Resident Evil for Sony’s Columbia Pictures.

Abrams and Cregger already have strong ties as the actor recently wrapped production on Cregger’s highly-anticipated thriller Weapons, which bows later this summer. Prior to landing the offer for Resident Evil, Abrams also won the coveted role in 20th Century’s Whalefall, which he would shoot prior to Resident Evil.

Abrams, last year he starred opposite George Clooney and Brad Pitt in Jon Watts’ Wolfs. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and received a limited theatrical release in the U.S. in September before its debut on Apple TV+. Abrams was also seen in Ethan Berger’s drama The Line alongside John Malkovich, Halle Bailey, Alex Wolff and Angus Cloud. That film premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival and was released in theaters in October 2024. In TV, Abrams appeared in Mark Duplass and Mel Eslyn’s series Penelope, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and debuted on Netflix in September 2024.

Abrams won fans and critical acclaim for his role as the beloved Ethan on HBO’s Euphoria. He also starred in Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s Do Revenge, which quickly became the most-watched program on Netflix when it debuted. He is repped by WME, Amplified and attorney Derek Kroeger.
