Just a month after Grayson Waller broke character to confront cameraman after being ‘disrespected’ on an Australian talk show, another incident similar to that has been recorded ahead of Elimination Chamber 2024.
Waller’s good friend Austin Theory engaged in an interview with The West Australian ahead of the premium live event in Australia when the ‘friendly banter got serious’. During the interview, the editor-in-chief of The West Australian, Anthony De Ceglie called wrestling fake.
While this wasn’t enough, he seemingly said that wrestling was not as ‘hard’ as Australian Rules football or Rugby League. The former United States Champion took it personally and broke character in anger to protect the prestige of wrestling.
Days ahead of WWE’s TV-return to Australia, security was forced to come in and separate both Theory and the journalist to calm things down.
“You brought me here and you’re going to talk to me like this? Just cause you’re in charge of some s**t doesn’t mean you can talk to me like this. You’re saying what I do is easy and you’re in front of all of your people talking about my job is easy … you couldn’t walk a damn day in my shoes. Are you kidding me man? I will smack the s**t outta you right now. I’m not playing around. Y’all bring me all the way out here for some media and this guy is talking his f**king head off. What’s his problem?”
A staff member then revealed that the editor-in-chief, Anthony, was genuinely worried about Theory’s reaction and was thankful to the security who helped diffuse the situation.
While this might not be true, Waller and Theory taking down Australian journalists ahead of Elimination Chamber 2024 might be an interesting angle. This could possibly help them revamp their characters ahead of the Grandest Stage of them All.
Do you think Austin Theory’s reaction to the journalist was a part of a plan? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
