Elizabeth Olsen opened up about her taste in film and admitted that it doesn’t always align with her work on the big screen, particularly in Marvel movies.
Despite being one of the biggest characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where she portrayed Wanda Maximoff in the Avengers series of films, the movies made by the studio are not ones she would personally consume.
“I think I haven’t always successfully made choices in my work that are aligned with my personal taste and that is something I feel like I’m still trying to prove when I meet people,” Olsen said on the Wild Card podcast. “Especially if it’s a work type meeting and be able to express my personal taste in films and literature, and so I still think I have that to prove.”
She continued, “Because I have spent so many years doing Marvel that I feel like all the other jobs I have to do have to really reflect my personal taste because as much as I love being a part of this world — and I’m proud of what I’ve been able to do with the character — it’s not really the art that I consume. Which I have been very honest about.”
Olsen explained that she joined the MCU because she “thought they were such great Greek-type scale stories that reflected politics, culture in a really lovely way. And so I felt really proud to jump into it. And then, within the last 10 years, it’s taken on this narrative of like, it’s like a hot take, whether an actor says they want to, they would never do a Marvel movie or not.”

Olsen joined the MCU in a cameo in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She would then star in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and reprise her role again in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.
Wanda Maximoff became an integral part of the Avengers saga with Olsen reprising the role in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
WandaVision, a Disney+ series that gave Olsen’s character more depth, premiered in 2021. Olsen last played the character in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Outside of the MCU, Olsen has starred in films like The Assessment (2024), His Three Daughters (2023), Kodachrome (2018), Wind River (2017), Ingrid Goes West (2017), I Saw the Light (2015), and Godzilla (2014), to name a few.
