EXCLUSIVE: Latin Grammy Winner and platinum selling artist Bad Bunny is the latest to join Austin Butler in Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller Caught Stealing for Sony Pictures. Aronofsky will direct the pic, which is based on the book by Charlie Huston. The script will be written by Huston, with Protozoa producing.

The film follows Hank Thompson, a burned-out former baseball player, as he’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of ‘90s New York City. It is unknown who Bad Bunny will play.

Bad Bunny recently wrapped his record-breaking Most Wanted Tour spanning 46 dates in 30 different arenas. The tour grossed approximately $208M and sold over 700,000 tickets; additionally, he broke the all-time gross record in 16 venues. Last fall, Bad Bunny released his latest album, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va A Pasar Manana, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and broke last year’s Spotify record for the most-streamed album in both a single day and week. The album is also Bad Bunny’s third debut at No. 1. In October 2023, he was both the host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live, and last month co-hosted the annual Met Gala.

Beyond the music, Bad Bunny is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after names in front of the camera. He made his on-screen debut in 2021 on the hit Netflix series Narcos: Mexico, and starred opposite Brad Pitt in David Leitch’s Bullet Train. He can most recently be seen in the Amazon film, Cassandro, opposite Gael Garcia Bernal, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He will also be executive producing the upcoming Netflix adaption of They Both Die at the End, a book by Puerto Rican author Adam Silvera.

Aronofsky is one of many acclaimed filmmakers currently working with Sony Pictures, a list that includes Sam Mendes, who is directing and producing the story of The Beatles with four distinct theatrical feature films; Taika Waititi, who directed Klara and the Sun; Danny Boyle, who is in production on 28 Years Later; Kogonada, who is in post-production on A Big Bold Beautiful Journey; and Jason Reitman, who is in post-production on Saturday Night.

Caught Stealing marks a reunion for the studio and Bad Bunny as Sony was the one to give his big acting break by casting him opposite Pitt in Bullet Train.

Bad Bunny is repped by UTA and Rimas Entertainment.
