The Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Tunde Bakare, has donated a 6KVA hybrid solar inverter to his alma mater, the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos.

He also announced an endowment fund for the two best-graduating students of the faculty.

Tunde Bakare, born November 11, 1954, is a Nigerian prophetic-apostolic pastor.

He studied law at the University of Lagos and practised as a lawyer before establishing his law firm. He eventually left his legal career to pursue a calling in pastoral ministry.

He made the contributions to his alma mater, in celebration of his 70th birthday.

Speaking on Tuesday at the programme titled, ‘Let There Be Light,’ he encouraged the audience to learn the importance of giving back to society.

Bakare said, “Let’s learn to give back to society. The journey began when I turned 50. At that time, I transformed my primary school into a model primary school.

“When I turned 60, I decided to contribute to my secondary school, Lisabi Grammar School. With the support of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lisabi received N474m, and today there is a Tunde Bakare House on the premises.

“Now, as I turn 70, I felt it was time to give back to my university. It is a great privilege to serve my alma mater, and this is also the moment to serve Nigeria.

“I don’t have to be President to make an impact; I can influence the nation by supporting a godly leader.”

He encouraged people to always use their influence to help others and uplift their communities.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof Abiola Sanni, described the gifts as an opportunity to inspire Bakare’s peers and other alumni to contribute more to the faculty.

“We want to showcase and celebrate Pastor Tunde Bakare, using his example to challenge his classmates and fellow alumni to follow suit.

“Your generosity in transforming the narrative is truly commendable. I encourage everyone to use this opportunity to give back to society,” Prof Sanni said.

The immediate-past Dean of the Faculty of Law at UNILAG, Prof Oyelowo Oyewo, used the event to criticise the government’s complacency and inefficiency.

“We must address the problem of electricity and declare a state of emergency for the future of this nation,” Oyewo said.

“The power grid keeps collapsing, and it’s time to stop pouring money into failed systems. We need to invest in solutions that work, as many viable options can lift us out of these issues.”

Other dignitaries at the event were former Vice-Chancellor, Prof Toyin Ogundipe; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ayodele Atsenuwa, and the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba.

Bakare, a pastor and politician, was also the former running mate to President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2011 presidential election.

He also contested the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress at its primary in 2022.
