Barcelona made it seven wins in seven matches in La Liga this season as they defeated Getafe 1-0 at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on Wednesday night.

Robert Lewandowski was the match-winner for the Blaugrana, scoring the only goal of the game.

Having been made to work hard by the opponents, Hansi Flick’s men showed great mentality to hold onto their lead and bag another victory that sends them four points clear of reigning champions Real Madrid.

Alejandro Balde wants to keep the streak going

Alejandro Balde spoke to the media after the game and reacted to Barcelona’s exceptional start to the season, saying (h/t AS):

“It’s the best start you can have and we want to keep it going. When we have the confidence, things go well.”

Discussing Getafe’s defensive approach to the game and how Barça wanted to tackle it, Balde remarked: “They are a defensive team who play their own game. We knew we had to play like that, try to tire them out and score.”

On the late chance that Getafe created and almost scored from, the left-back said: “It would have been a big scare. We were lucky that the ball didn’t go in.”

Cubarsi elated by spectacular start

Meanwhile, Pau Cubarsi, who was back in the starting XI last night after a rest vs Villarreal, expressed his great pleasure at the start that Barcelona have made this season, saying (h/t Mundo Deportivo):

“It’s a spectacular start to the league, which is very good, and we’ll try to keep it that way.”

On the game against Getafe, the young defender said: “Getafe are always a tough team defensively, it’s hard for them to concede goals. We scored the first goal and we held on for the result, which is the important thing: the three points.

“You always learn from the games. Getafe are always waiting for you to make a mistake and you have to be focused every minute. In this aspect, you have to be very confident.”

Cubarsi also praised his defensive partner, Inigo Martinez, saying: “He’s a person who helps you both inside and outside, and I’m very confident with him in defence. We help each other and I think we are very good.”

Finally, Cubarsi referred to the goalkeeping situation at Barcelona currently, saying:

“The objective is always to keep a clean sheet, because the goals will come. We’re very happy that Inaki is playing, but it’s a shame about what happened to Marc. However, we have full confidence in Inaki and we are with him.”

Eric Garcia happy with redemption

After his early sending-off during the game against AS Monaco, Eric Garcia has shown improvements in the last two matches playing as the defensive midfielder – something that Flick highlighted after the game.

The Spanish international himself was happy with how things are going for him since that disaster in Monaco, as he said:

“After the sending-off, which was very unlucky, to be able to play those minutes and for the team to have maintained the level and won is very good for me.”

On the match against Getafe, he commented: “We knew it would be like this and that we had to try our best. Without playing our best game, we were pretty good.

“We had chances, it’s true that they had a clear one, but now we have to recover well and more on Saturday.”

“The schedule, with games every three days, is difficult, but the most important thing is the three points,” he further added.

Finally, highlighting the immense quality in the squad, Garcia said: “We know that we have to work to the maximum. We have a squad of an incredible level, there is a very good cohesion and that can be seen in the results.

“Creating that competition is everyone’s job; if we all perform at a good level, it’s the team that will be grateful for it.”
