Coming out of Argentina’s card against Bolivia (6-0) on Tuesday evening, Lionel Messi named his favorite for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. And it’s a surprise!

Lionel Messi has chosen his successor. Elected Ballon d’Or for the eighth time in his career – absolute record – a year ago, the Inter Miami striker showed his preference for this 2024 edition. He nominated one of his compatriots and teammates in the jersey of the Argentine selection: Lautaro Martinez.

“He had a spectacular year, he scored a goal in the final, he was top scorer in the Copa America, he deserves the Ballon d’Or more than anyone. I hope Martinez wins the Ballon d’Or, he deserves it more than anyone. If it doesn’t come now for him, I’m sure this reward will come to him later.”confided the “Pulga” to the microphone of Tyc Sports.

“If not now, it will be later”

Same story from Lionel Scaloni: “ I am his trainer. I think he had a spectacular year. (…) He’s a boy that I really like. He has been with us since minute zero. I hope he can get it (the Ballon d’Or). Surely, if not now, it will be later. He still has a great future. »

Despite his good season with Inter Milan, Lautaro Martinez is not a favorite this year, unlike Vinicius, Bellingham or even Rodri. As a reminder, the 2024 Ballon d’Or will be awarded during the ceremony which will take place in Paris, at the Théâtre du Châtelet, on Monday October 28.
