Present among the 30 candidates for the Ballon d’Or, Lamine Yamal considers that his nomination gives him additional motivation to continue his meteoric rise.

Lamine Yamal is now the new darling of FC Barcelona. In his first season as a professional, the Spanish striker has already impressed in the Blaugrana jersey, before shining during a remarkable European campaign with Spain, crowned by a victory for La Roja against England in the final (2-1).

In this context, the talent and precocity of this pure product of La Masia have not escaped observers, to the point of allowing him to be among the 30 nominees for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. Although Yamal does not expect to win the prestigious award, he already says he is honored to be part of this elite.

A promising future

The 17-year-old right winger learned the news from his national team-mate, Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams. Yamal sees the recognition as a good sign for the rest of his career.

“I was with Nico (Williams) in the lift. He found out first that he was nominated, then me. Everyone congratulated us, but I have no chance, even if it is good to warm up“, confided the 2024 European champion in the program ‘El Hormiguero’ on Antena 3.
