The Nasarawa State Government has emphatically declared that there is not a single community across the 13 Local Government Areas in Nasarawa State that is under the control of bandits or other criminal elements.
The Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, made the declaration while speaking with our correspondent in Lafia on Wednesday.
According to him, the efforts of the governor in collaborating with the security agencies in the state are some of the reasons for the success story.
Ahemba said, “Governor Abdullahi Sule has been very intentional with issues of security. That is why he has been collaborating with the security agencies to ensure that criminal elements are brought to book.”
“As I speak with you, there is no community or LGA that is under the control of bandits in Nasarawa State. We are aware that the issues of insecurity are almost everywhere in the country, but I can assure you that we have never had an issue where bandits took over even a community in our dear state.
“We will remain grateful to the governor for being proactive. He has never allowed any issue of insecurity to go unattended to, and that is why residents of the state usually sleep with their two eyes closed.”
Corroborating Ahemba, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said there had never been an issue of such magnitude in the state.
He explained that the command had been collaborating with the communities on issues of insecurity, adding that the efforts had paid off as it had helped to address the excesses of criminal elements in the state.
“In Nasarawa State, generally, we do not have communities or LGAs that are under the siege of bandits. The state police command, via its crime prevention approaches, has reduced crime to its bare minimum in the state.
“The police command under the captainship of CP Umar Nadada, via the instrumentality of community policing, community engagements and stakeholders’ engagements and sensitisation, has brought in members of various communities into the issues of security, and they have been contributing their quota in safe-guarding their various areas which has helped in reducing crime in the state.
“We have also been deploying undercover police operatives to relaxation centers, hotels, and various places to snif for information. This has also helped the command with the reduction of crime in the state.
“So, with all these strategies and many more, there is obviously no place for bandits to occupy in the state. And I want to say it again that bandits do not have control of any community or LGA in Nasarawa State,” the PPRO said.
