Hundreds of gunmen suspected to be bandits on Friday attacked residents of Dan-Ali community in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Saturday PUNCH gathered that the hoodlums stormed the community, shooting sporadically leading to the disruption of Jummat prayer at various mosques around the area.

A source told our correspondent that the bandits stormed the community to rescue a suspected informant, identified as Aisha Bala, who was reportedly arrested by security operatives.

“The bandits in their large numbers invaded our community, Dan-Ali, and started shooting sporadically. We were at the Jummat prayer when we heard the shooting and everybody ran, and we couldn’t hold our prayers again.

“We need reinforcement in the area because they (bandits) are giving us a tough time in our communities as we speak”, the source who preferred anonymity said.

Saturday PUNCH also learnt that for over one week, bandits had prevented farmers from Dan-Ali, Gwarjo, Dangane, Tudun, Tasha Kadanya, and Tasha Biri from going to their farms.

According to residents of the community, the main troubled areas are Yantumaki road leading to Kankara local government area of Katsina State where bandits are notorious for their heinous activities.

Efforts to speak with the Police authority on the matter were not successful as the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, Abubakar Sadiq, didn’t answer his calls.
