The Nico Williams case has raised eyebrows within Barça. The Athletic Bilbao winger who shines with Spain alongside Lamine Yamal has been insistently announced on the FC Barcelona side for some time. If the Blaugrana leaders are very interested in his profile, internally there are questions about the 21-year-old player’s management of the situation. According to SportFC Barcelona executives would criticize him for having extended his contract with Bilbao until 2027 despite the interest already announced by the Catalans at the time.

The Barcelona club, which is in serious financial difficulty, would have dreamed of being able to attract Williams for free this summer. But the winger’s extension with Bilbao obliges the Blaugrana to pay the player’s 58 million euros release clause if they want to afford him. Other possibilities are being considered by Barça, notably Luis Diaz of Liverpool in the event of failure of negotiations with Bilbao, which does not intend to sell its jewel in the crown.
