FC Barcelona has just been fined 10,000 euros by UEFA for a banner displayed at Louis-II against Monaco in the Champions League addressed to Hansi Flick. Supporters used Nazi symbolism to greet the 59-year-old German coach. They were banned from the stadium. The technician reacted to this sanction at a press conference this Friday, welcoming the UEFA sanction. “They gave the correct answer. What I can say now would be too much. I don’t think it’s worth adding anything. What they did is very good», greets the coach, thanking the words of Elena Fort, the club spokesperson. Moments later, Barça released a statement on the subject.
“FC Barcelona communicates that UEFA has imposed a fine of €10,000 and banned the sale of tickets for an away Champions League match due to the racist behavior of certain supporters during the first day’s match played by the first men’s football team at the Stade Louis II in Monaco on September 19. The Club communicates that it will respect and apply this sanction for the match of the fourth day of the UEFA Champions League that the team will play against FK Crvena zvezda in Belgrade on November 6. FC Barcelona will refund the ticket price to fans who have already purchased it. FC Barcelona rejects any type of justification of violence and, as stated in articles 3 and 4 of its statutes, it strives to protect and promote the Universal Declaration of Human Rights contained in the International Charter of human rights adopted by the United Nations. Furthermore, given that the behavior of supporters groups and fans during home matches (Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys or Estadi Johan Cruyff) and away results in repeated sanctions both at national and international level, the Club is ready to strengthen current measures and adopt other appropriate initiatives in order to prevent future events and apply sanctions to those responsible“.
