FC Barcelona is having a checkered season. The best. Third in La Liga, Xavi’s men are still in the running in the Champions League where they will face Naples in the round of 16. However, securing the podium is a necessity for the reigning Spanish champion. To do this, the Catalan club will host the poorly ranked Granada on Sunday evening (9 p.m.). A meeting for which Sergi Roberto should hold his place. Slightly reduced, the Blaugrana captain should be present as stipulated by Xavi at a press conference this Saturday.

It was also on the occasion of the latter that the former midfielder called on his club to extend the 32-year-old player whose contract expires in June: “Sergi (Roberto) is just scheduled for tomorrow but we hope he will be present in the next match. My recommendation is that the club should renew Serg. For me he is an important footballer when he was there. So my recommendation is this, but these are personal decisions.» It remains to be seen whether the words of Xavi, who resigned at the end of the season, will really weigh on the minds of Barcelona’s leaders.
