Barcelona’s young forward, Toni Fernandez, may only be 16 years old, but he has already captured the attention of head coach Hansi Flick.

Despite his youth, Fernandez is driven by the dream of playing for the senior team this season. According to a recent report from SPORT, he is well aware that he could be sent back to Juvenil A at any time, but he is prepared to handle this in a positive manner.

It is evident that Flick has shown complete faith in the 16-year-old, recognising the potential he brings to the table. He himself feels that he has made significant strides physically in the past few weeks.

Last season, he made his mark with Juvenil B, standing out as one of the top performers. This season, the plan is for him to oscillate between Juvenil A and Barça Atletic, allowing him to continue his development and work towards his ultimate dream of making it with the first team.

Pre-season was the key

Fernandez’s rise to prominence began when he was included in the first call-up for the start of Barcelona’s pre-season, which came as a big surprise to many.

At just 15 years old, he had not yet signed a renewal with the club, which he has been part of since the summer of 2018.

Flick was quick to notice Fernandez’s talent, and the youngster was given a starting role in the first pre-season friendly, a match played behind closed doors against Olot.

Although only a brief summary of the match was released, it highlighted Fernandez’s contribution, as he provided an assist to Pablo Torre for the only goal of the game.

Fernandez knows what Flick thinks

Fernandez feels the support and confidence from Flick and is determined not to disappoint him. He acknowledges that he has made a significant physical leap recently and credits training alongside established players with helping him grow in various facets of his game.

Even though Fernandez is living a dream by being part of the first team setup, he remains realistic about the possibility of returning to Juvenil A.

He is mentally prepared to face this situation, understanding that it wouldn’t be a step back in his career but rather an opportunity to continue his growth.
