Barcelona 16-year-old talent not thinking about first-team call-up

Even if Barcelona end the 2023/24 campaign without winning a single trophy, the season will always be remembered in the annals of history, particularly due to the emergence of multiple young players.

The likes of Pau Cubarsi, Lamine Yamal, Marc Guiu and Hector Fort have all made their breakthroughs in the first team, which has come in handy for Barça.

As Barcelona continue to deal with economic turmoil, it won’t be surprising to see more young players earning their breakthroughs in professional football.

In fact, many believe Marc Bernal is one of those youth players poised to make his breakthrough in the first-team, having already made a solid impression at Barça Athletic.

Bernal: a future prospect for Barcelona

A defensive midfielder by trade, Bernal has been one of the star performers for Barcelona’s subsidiary squad this season.

The youngster has impressed onlookers with his technical qualities and ability to read the game, making him one of Rafa Marquez’s favourites.

In addition to his technical qualities, Bernal has also impressed everyone with his versatility. He has operated in the central defensive positions multiple times this season, thus making him an exciting option for the first team.

Bernal not thinking about first-team football

However, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, it appears Marc Bernal is not thinking about first-team football and is in no rush to make his professional breakthrough.

In a recent media interaction, Bernal expressed his delight to play for Barça Athletic, stating, “Playing for Barça Athletic at the of 16 is already a reward and I am grateful for all the opportunities. Let’s continue with the games that the coach gives me.”

The 16-year-old was also asked about his favourite position. The youngster did not hesitate in pointing out the number six position but added that he is happy to play whatever role the team needs.

“My position is 6, but I am comfortable inside. left or right. I am happy with the opportunities that the coach gives me, wherever it is,” he said.

Although Marc Bernal is not thinking about a professional breakthrough right now, he is certainly going to be an interesting inclusion in Barcelona’s pre-season preparations in the coming summer.
