Barcelona have reaped the rewards of putting their faith in La Masia this season, with players like Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Fermin Lopez, and to an extent Hector Fort, making a big impression in the first team.

It has been one of the biggest positives of Xavi Hernandez’s reign as manager of Barcelona. As such, there were some concerns that should he leave at the end of the season, whoever replaces him might not continue the trend.

But, this week, Xavi confirmed the U-turn on his future, reversing his decision to leave in order to continue as Barcelona manager.

Hector Fort’s contract renewal almost done

Now, as per The Daily Briefing, Xavi’s decision to stay on at Barcelona is all set to lead to the contract renewal of young defender Hector Fort.

The 17-year-old youngster made his senior debut this season and has gone on to feature eight times across all competitions, even registering two assists.

Primarily a right-back, Fort has also filled in at left-back when needed and given a very good account of himself at the highest level.

The young defensive prodigy’s performance in the Copa del Rey defeat to Athletic Club was a standout.

Fort’s current contract with Barcelona expires in 2025 and comes with a paltry release clause of €6 million, which other clubs could take advantage of and sign him.

As such, the Blaugrana have been working towards renewing his contract with an improved salary and a higher release clause.

Now, as per the report, Xavi’s continuity all but guarantees Fort’s renewal as the youngster will be assured of getting minutes in the first-team setup next season.

Apart from Fort, Barcelona are also closing in on the contract renewals of two more La Masia prospects in the form of Pau Cubarsi and Marc Guiu.
