According to a report from SPORT, within the Barcelona dressing room, Marc Casado has earned the nickname “Kimmich” due to his playing style and position, which are reminiscent of Bayern Munich’s star player, Joshua Kimmich.

Both Kimmich and Casado are versatile players who can also fill in at right-back while also playing as a midfielder. This adaptability makes them valuable assets to their teams.

It must be noted that Rafa Marquez initially placed Casado in this position due to a shortage of players, and Casado excelled by playing effectively both in possession and defensively on the right side.

The 20-year-old’s journey to securing his contract renewal was marked by an impressive season with Barça Atletic. As a standout leader on the field, he became an extension of Marquez’s strategy.

Although he didn’t get many chances to play with the first team last season, he trained diligently under Xavi’s guidance. His dedication was evident as he often made it to Barça Atletic’s matches despite being called up by Xavi.

Now, as an official member of the first team, Casado is determined to prove his worth to the Barcelona squad.

He aims to show his value, especially given the current gaps in the midfield. With key players like Frenkie de Jong, Fermin Lopez, and Gavi unavailable at the start of the competition, Casado sees this as his opportunity to step up and make an impact.

During the first friendly match of the American tour, Casado was a standout performer. He played in the midfield alongside Marc Bernal and Pablo Torre and made a significant contribution by assisting Pau Víctor’s first goal.

In the locker room, there is a playful atmosphere regarding Casado’s nickname. He is often referred to as ‘Joshua’ in a lighthearted manner, a nod to Kimmich, who was rumoured to be a potential signing for Barcelona’s pivot role

Alejandro Balde, one of the more vocal players in the locker room, frequently reminds Casado of this nickname on Instagram, making it a running joke among the team.
