Marc Guiu has been one of Barcelona’s several revelations from the academy this year. He may not be as popular as the likes of Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, but he has proven himself to be a handy option off the bench in Xavi’s plans.
The 18-year-old’s minutes, however, have been limited owing to the competition factor in the squad which is simply brutal.
After all, the youngster has to compete not only with Robert Lewandowski but also with Vitor Roque for a place on the field.
Despite the competition, Guiu has managed to rack up two goals for Barcelona across all competitions in his limited minutes and is optimistic about the season ahead.
SPORT, in fact, reveals that his confidence is sky-high after the news of Xavi’s continuity arrived.
Firm on his goal
As revealed by SPORT, Guiu sees himself as possessing the required quality to fight for a spot in Xavi’s plans next season. His priority is to succeed in the first team, and he sees no two ways to it.
There have been talks of a possible move on loan to secure more regular minutes, but the player strongly advocates against the same.
Moreover, Barça Atletic are in a good position to secure promotion this season, and any such development would negate any need for a loan.
Xavi’s continuity has only catalysed his decision to stay, for the youngster has seen first-hand how the manager has preferred his profile over Roque on numerous occasions.
Guiu is thus focused on staying in Catalonia and proving his worth for the time being.
Renewal on the cards?
A Cule through and through, Guiu already has his agents working on renewing his contract with Barcelona.
The young striker’s current deal runs out in 2025, and he wishes to continue at the club of his dreams paying no regard to the proposals on his table.
The report goes on to admit that Guiu’s renewal, in fact, is more advanced than that of Pau Cubarsi and Hector Fort who have enjoyed more prominence this season. An agreement is said to be close.
The coming pre-season, thus, will be interesting to watch from Guiu’s perspective as it will give the player a clear idea of the manager’s faith in him. For now, his heart is in Catalonia.
