Barcelona have a number of young and talented footballers coming through the ranks who are waiting for their chance in the senior setup.
One such player happens to be midfielder Marc Casado. The 20-year-old La Masia ace has been in and around the senior setup for some time now but has not gotten a proper run in the side unlike Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi.
Casado happens to be the captain of the club’s reserve team, Barça Atletic, and his current contract with the Catalans expires at the end of the season.
Barcelona negotiating new contract with Casado
As such, Fabrizio Romano reports that Barcelona are in talks with Casado over a new contract which would see him remain at the club until 2027.
Casado so far has played just five times for the senior team under manager Xavi Hernandez but is seen as an important player for the present and the future by the club.
As such, the current La Liga champions are eager to secure Casado’s long-term future at the club and are advancing in negotiations over a new deal for the defensive midfielder.
With talks understood to be progressing well, all signs point towards Casado putting pen on paper over a new deal until 2027.
Given Casado’s contract situation, there had been a number of clubs interested in signing him for free in the summer. But with his renewal now on track, an exit seems out of the question.
Furthermore, with the possibility of Oriol Romeu leaving at the end of the season, Casado could have a genuine shot at becoming a regular part of the senior setup, especially if Rafa Marquez replaces Xavi as manager.
