It is no secret that Barcelona are scouring the market far and wide for a new pivot midfielder this summer and seem to have settled on a few names as possible targets.

The likes of Joshua Kimmich, Amadou Onana, and Mikel Merino feature at the top of the Blaugrana’s list for the summer, but other options are also being looked at.

Manuel Ugarte on Barcelona’s radars

As such, reports in France as relayed by Mundo Deportivo suggest that Barcelona are tracking PSG and Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

The 23-year-old had been on the Catalans’ radars last summer as well but ended up joining PSG from Sporting CP in a deal worth €60 million.

After a season of adaptation in Luis Enrique’s side, the midfielder is currently performing well with the Uruguayan national team at the Copa America 2024.

But Ugarte’s future in Paris has become a topic of debate in recent weeks with interest coming from the Premier League, where Manchester City are believed to be keen.

Now, it is being claimed that Barcelona are keeping tabs on the midfielder as well and would be interested in signing him if he opts to leave the Ligue 1 champions this summer.

Move unlikely

While Ugarte might be a player who is appreciated by Barcelona, a move for the 23-year-old looks unlikely this summer.

PSG paid €60 million for the 23-year-old Uruguayan only last year and would likely seek a higher sum in the case of a sale – something that would be an issue for Barça.

Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, Barcelona have other players like Kimmich as their main priority to reinforce the midfield.
