Journalist Pedro Morata has revealed that Barcelona and Nike are currently in discussions about a new contract, and the Catalan club is aiming to increase their annual earnings from €60 million to over €100 million.

However, Nike’s latest offer is close to this figure but does not quite reach it.

It must be noted that Barcelona has expressed dissatisfaction with how Nike has managed their partnership. Issues have been highlighted, such as problems with distribution and dissatisfaction over the printing of Robert Lewandowski’s name on the kit.

The team from Catalonia pointed out that Nike failed to stock enough shirts in stores two seasons ago, leading to poor shirt sales for the club.

Lot of legal problems between Nike and Barcelona

Due to these problems, Barcelona seem to be left with no choice but to continue their relationship with Nike. This situation comes after a period of intense legal disputes

Initially, Barcelona sued Nike, claiming a breach of contract. The court, however, ruled in Nike’s favour. Barcelona appealed the decision, but the process in Spain has caused delays. In fact, Barcelona have gone to court twice within two weeks regarding this matter.

Given that the court’s initial ruling supported Nike, it is unlikely that the appeal will turn in favour of Barcelona.

Nike have come up with an offer

As reported before, Nike’s last proposal to Barcelona was for €95 million per year, with an additional premium of €150 million.

This offer was for a ten-year term with the option to extend for another five years. Despite this, Barcelona is pushing for at least €115 million per year, along with a premium.

The club is waiting for further developments and hopes to receive a revised offer with improved terms in the near future.
