It is no secret that Barcelona have long been interested in Dani Olmo, but recent reports from Carrusel Deportivo indicate that Nico Williams remains their top priority.

This means if Barcelona were to make a significant signing this summer, it would likely be for the Athletic Club player, with whom Barcelona have an agreement in principle.

Barcelona are actively seeking a major addition to their squad this season, with a particular focus on Spanish national team stars participating in the European Championship.

Olmo has consistently been an attractive option for Barcelona due to his skills, previous association with the club, and reasonable price. However, according to reports, the club’s priority target right now is Nico.

Despite Barcelona not being in a position to make multiple substantial purchases, if they must choose, they will go for Nico. Club president Joan Laporta seems to favour him, although Olmo remains on their radar as a player they admire and closely follow.

Difficult road for Barcelona

It has been suggested that the main challenge for Barcelona in signing these players is not the transfer fee of €58-60 million but rather their salaries.

Competing with the wages offered by Premier League clubs or PSG is a significant hurdle and this issue presents a major dilemma for Barcelona, as they need to align their financial capabilities with the demands of these players.

Currently, Barcelona are not in a typical position to make high-profile signings without significant effort from both the club and the players.

Laporta wants Nico

For what it is worth, Joan Laporta has publicly discussed Nico in a recent interview, expressing confidence that Barcelona could manage a signing of this magnitude

Laporta mentioned that the club would soon announce several operations that would enable them to return to financial fair play normality after three challenging years.

In conclusion, while Olmo has been a long-standing target for Barcelona, their immediate focus is on securing Nico.

The club’s financial constraints and the competitive salaries offered by other top clubs, however, complicate their efforts, but Barcelona remain optimistic about returning to a stable financial footing and making impactful signings.
