It has been a frustrating season thus far for FC Barcelona, with the recent defeat to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final only heaping on the misery further.
Xavi Hernandez’s side have had to deal with several issues, starting with injuries to some important players, while some key stars have not performed up to expectations.
One such player whose displays have generated some discontentment within the club is Robert Lewandowski.
Backroom staff frustrated with Lewandowski’s lack of goals
Indeed, as per The Athletic, Barcelona backroom staff has grown frustrated by Lewandowski’s ‘lack of luck’ in front of goal in the ongoing campaign.
The 35-year-old enjoyed a fine start to life at Barça last season and was one of the main architects of their La Liga triumph, even though his form had been tapering down during the second half of the campaign.
Things have only worsened for Lewandowski this term as he has been misfiring in front of goal while his overall game has also shown signs of decline.
Even though he has been among the goals in the last few games in 2024, his general performance has been well below the level expected of him and it has led to some concerns within the club.
This is not the first time claims of this nature have emerged, with reports towards the end of 2023 also reporting that some members within the club were dissatisfied with the performances of the superstar, who is seen as a leader in the team.
Xavi himself had allegedly hit out at Lewandowski inside the dressing room during half-time in the game against Almeria.
It is up to Lewandowski to pull up his socks and get back among the goals for Barcelona need him at his best to salvage their season.
