At 24 years of age, Ronald Araujo is already one of the captains of FC Barcelona and it goes without saying that the Uruguayan is valued a lot within the team.

The gravity of his importance is so great that Barcelona are already working on his contract renewal despite the fact that his deal expires in the summer of 2026.

Then there is this charismatic new entrant in Pau Cubarsi who, at a mere 17 years of age, has sent waves of magic within the first team so much so that he has already garnered accolades from the dressing room.

And now, a report from Mundo Deportivo has emerged, saying that within the Barcelona management, there is a growing sense of belief that despite being just 24 years of age, Araujo could be an ideal mentor for Cubarsi and the two can actually form a legendary defensive duo revolution at Barcelona.

Barcelona are seeing a future

There is a prevailing belief within the team that the Araujo-Cubarsi partnership has the potential to anchor the heart of the Barcelona defence in under two years, shaping the team’s backline for numerous seasons.

Reminiscent of the glorious past, this duo would seamlessly blend attributes such as resilience, pace, and assertiveness with finesse, tactical acumen, and grace in distribution.

While acknowledging the subtle differences, their coordination reflects the rhythmic balance once exhibited by the formidable pairing of Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique at the club.

Additionally, the seasoned Uruguayan could pass on his wisdom and leadership skills to the flourishing 17-year-old defender, fostering growth and development.

Presently, Cubarsi has only shared the field with Araujo while featuring in four La Liga games.

The calming influence and assurance displayed by Araujo during these matches, notably against Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey fixture, have been instrumental in bolstering Cubarsí’s confidence and performance.
