Barcelona cannot guarantee captain’s continuity due to financial reasons

According to a report by Fernando Polo in Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are currently unable to guarantee that Sergi Roberto will be registered in La Liga for the upcoming season. 

The outlet affirms that this uncertainty stems from the club’s financial fair play issues and if these problems are not resolved, there is a chance that Roberto might leave the club this summer.

It is no secret that Roberto faces an unclear future with Barcelona. The decision for him to stay at the club is seen as a risky bet and although the club wants him to continue, they have made it clear that he is not among their top priorities. 

In that regard, sources have revealed that the Barcelona midfielder has been informed directly that if he wants to renew his contract, he will have to wait and take a risk. 

This is because the club cannot promise him a spot in the La Liga registration list due to financial constraints. As of now, he is not the first or even the second choice on their list of priorities.

Barcelona are clear with Roberto

Barcelona has presented a realistic scenario to Roberto, making sure he understands the situation. The club has communicated that there is not enough salary space to guarantee his registration at this moment. 

For this reason, he has been asked to wait until the summer market, which could be in June, July, or even August, to see if there will be room for him.

There is also another factor that complicates the situation for the captain. Despite the club’s desire to keep him, other players are considered higher priorities for registration. 

Players like Gavi need to have their registration situation regularised, as do Alejandro Balde and Inigo Martínez. Additionally, there is Vitor Roque, who might go on loan to another major club.

Roberto will explore other avenues 

Given these conditions, there is a possibility that Roberto might choose to explore new opportunities to secure his future sooner. 

He has at least one significant offer apart from Barcelona’s, and he needs to respond to it in a few days. 

His representatives acknowledge that Barcelona’s financial fair play issues have delayed contract talks, but they also point out that Barcelona have given their word to ensure the captain’s renewal.

In all, the future of Sergi Roberto at Barcelona is uncertain. While the club wants him to stay, they cannot guarantee his registration due to financial issues. 

This is because other players are prioritised for registration, and Roberto has been asked to wait and take a risk.
