Barcelona’s priorities during a summer transfer window are seldom as clear as they are this year.

Joan Laporta and Co. have their mind fixed on signing Nico Williams this summer. With the youngster having a release clause under €60 million, the move is within reach and stands out as the board’s top priority.

However, the management’s decision to sign Williams brings its own set of implications and SPORT reveals one of the same.

The only signing of the summer?

It is no secret that Barcelona are neck deep in financial crisis. In fact, the club are so far down the rabbit hole that they will likely have to take a loan to pull off Williams’ signing this summer.

As revealed by the Spanish outlet, Barcelona will go all out for the young winger this month and plan to adjust the remaining margin to see if there is room for any more signings.

Moreover, the management are aware that if Williams arrives, the club cannot make any more signings without big sales.

Nico, thus, could well end up being Barcelona’s only signing for next season.

Wingers refuse to leave

Given the club’s financial situation, many expected the team’s summer transfer window to revolve around sales with some big-name players set to depart.

No such development, however, has occurred to this point.

Barcelona wingers Ferran Torres and Raphinha refuse to leave the club this summer despite knowing that they will not enjoy much prominence in the year ahead.

Both players believe they have what it takes to leave a mark under the new coach. As long as the situation continues as it is, the arrival of a second big player appears complicated.
