Former Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font has never been shy to take aim at the current club administration led by Joan Laporta.

The businessman from Granollers has always been critical of the way things have been run by the current Barça president and his board, be it the financial operations, the transfers, or the managerial changes.

Barcelona cannot sign Nico

Now, in a candid interview with The Athletic (h/t SPORT), Victor Font has come out and claimed that Barcelona are not in a position to sign Nico Williams as of today.

The 22-year-old Athletic Club winger has emerged as the top priority for Barcelona in the ongoing transfer window.

In fact, Barça president Joan Laporta had expressed confidence in public about the club’s capability of signing the Spanish international despite their recent financial struggles and Fair Play issues.

But things have slowed down quite a bit in recent days on the Nico front, although it has more to do with the player’s stance than the club’s issues.

Despite that, Font has now come out and stated that Barcelona are not in a position to be able to sign the UEFA Euro 2024 winner.

“We wish we could sign Nico Williams because that’s what we need. The president has said it’s possible, but that’s not true. It can’t be done today. We hope it’ll be possible tomorrow. But today it’s not,” he said.

Calling out the board of directors for broken promises, Font added: “We, the members, want to dream and believe what we are told.

“The problem is that they have been telling us for three summers that everything is fine, that we will sign players and that everything has been resolved. Every year that goes by, credibility drops. And this summer, if the promises are not kept, credibility will fall even further.”
