Barcelona capable of signing both their top targets despite financial situation – report

Barcelona are working round the clock to facilitate the signing of Nico Williams as soon as possible.

The Athletic Club forward has emerged as the club’s priority target this summer, with new coach Hansi Flick looking to unit him with Lamine Yamal in Barça’s frontline next season.

Barcelona, though, are equally keen on shoring up their ranks in the creative unit, with Dani Olmo emerging as a top target.

Barcelona can sign both Nico & Olmo

Not more than two months ago, it seemed almost impossible for Barcelona to even comprehend signing Nico or Olmo, let alone the two combined.

However, according to Gerard Romero, the Catalans are now in a position to afford both Nico and Olmo this summer.

This could be quite significant for Barcelona, who have been enduring economic woes for the better part of Joan Laporta’s second term in office.

But things have changed slowly and for the better. The club have been able to slowly reduce their salary mass and get rid of unwanted stars. They are also close to striking a new deal with Nike, which could further add to the club’s coffers.

This, in turn, could significantly aid Barcelona in their bid to sign both Nico and Olmo this summer. The former is available for a fee of just €58 million this summer, with the player himself reportedly tempted by the idea of joining the Catalan outfit.

The pursuit of Olmo, on the other hand, could prove to be slightly trickier as the Spaniard’s release clause worth €60 million has likely expired.

That means Barcelona will now have to negotiate Olmo’s exit with RB Leipzig, who will have no shortage of bidders for their star player this summer.

Deco held a meeting with the Spanish international’s agent to discuss a possible transfer earlier today, adding more weight to the speculations.

The coming days, therefore, could prove to be critical as Barcelona make integral decisions in regards to their squad-building heading into the new season.
