Barcelona defender and one of the club captains, Ronald Araujo, has been at the centre of transfer speculations since the onset of the January transfer window.
Serie A giants Juventus have shown an interest in signing the Uruguayan international on loan this month with a buy option inserted in the deal.
In fact, earlier today, reports from Italy went as far as saying that the Barcelona centre-back had said ‘yes’ to the move as he wished to play regularly after spending the first half of the season out injured.
Araujo’s camp denies rumours
However, now, according to SPORT, Araujo’s camp has categorically denied these claims, stating that the Barça heavyweight has neither agreed to nor committed to any move to Juventus.
The defender’s entourage emphasises that he is fully focused on recovering his form following a long-term injury, with his first appearance of the season against UD Barbastro last week seen as a significant step toward regaining full fitness.
Araujo is under contract with Barcelona until 2026, and his representatives have reiterated that any potential move would first require Juventus to reach an agreement with the Catalan club.
The Uruguayan international’s camp also dismissed rumours of any negotiations regarding a departure during the current winter transfer window.
For now, Araujo’s priority is to improve his performance levels and contribute to Barcelona’s campaign for the remainder of the season.
Things to change in the summer?
However, Araujo’s future at Barcelona beyond the current season remains uncertain. While he is committed to the club for now, his situation could change come June.
With his contract expiring in 2026, the Blaugrana have made it clear to the player that he must renew before the summer or get placed on the market as they do not intend to let him enter the final year of his deal.
Speaking to the media after the Barbastro game, Araujo did not give much away as far as his future is concerned, as he said:
“We are talking with the club about my renewal, but I am focused on playing again and getting minutes.”
“Will I continue 100% at Barça? We are talking to the club,” he added.
