Ronald Araújo’s injury earlier this summer came as a massive blow to Hansi Flick’s plans especially considering how the Uruguayan is an undisputed starter for the club when fully fit.

Seemingly out until the end of the year, the Catalans were looking for a silver lining to grab onto from Araújo’s setback and appeared to find that in terms of registering new players for La Liga.

With Araújo unavailable for the first half of the campaign, Barcelona planned to leave the defender unregistered and utilise the same space in financial fair play to register other players who were fit.

A compromise reached

While indeed it was a viable option to leave the captain unregistered, Barcelona appear to have found a stable middle ground.

As revealed by SPORT, Araújo will remain registered in La Liga for Barcelona despite his injury.

The big factor that enabled the Blaugrana’s decision on this front is the fact that they can still utilise 80% of his place on financial fair play to register other stars.

As was the case with Gavi’s injury that opened the door for Vitor Roque’s registration, Araújo’s injury will thus provide the Catalans sufficient space to complete their squad, with the defender acting as a ‘lever’ to ensure others’ registrations.

Nine pending names

The Spanish outlet furthers that nine players of the first team are currently unregistered for the league.

Iñigo Martínez, Vitor Roque, Pau Víctor, Marc Casado, Eric García, Pablo Torre, Ansu Fati, Julián Araújo and Álex Valle are all on the waitlist to be registered and it remains to be seen if the Catalans have the required space.

Moreover, Dani Olmo’s arrival in Catalonia is only a matter of time and it is imperative that the administration finds means to register the new signing first.
