Sergi Roberto’s future at Barcelona continues to hang in the balance. The club captain ends his contract at the end of the season and there is nothing concrete related to that so far.

However, as per reports, a meeting is scheduled to take place between Barcelona and Roberto’s agent. The agenda of the meeting would be to discuss what lies ahead for the player.

Initially, the club did not plan on extending his contract, but his recent performances have prompted them to reconsider. Until yesterday, it was reported that only the new coach would decide Roberto’s future, but that does not seem to be the case anymore.

Roberto has turned this around

As mentioned before, Roberto’s future is uncertain as his contract is set to expire in the summer, and currently, there is no agreement in place for the player to stay on.

Initially, the board of the Blaugrana club had no plans to extend his contract, however, the player’s impressive performance hasn’t gone unnoticed. Now, it has been revealed that Barcelona will soon meet with the Spaniard’s agent to decide on the next steps definitively.

Roberto is more than just a player for Barcelona

Roberto’s presence in the Barcelona locker extends beyond being a mere athlete. The veteran defender has been signing short-term contracts with modest pay, which has been beneficial in reducing the first team’s salary expenses.

And even after that, he is open to continuing this arrangement with Barcelona. Additionally, the club’s sports management is pleased with Roberto’s leadership as captain and the valuable playing time he provides on the field.

On the other hand, he is actively assisting younger players like Pau Cubarsi and Hector Fort among others in settling into the team dynamic. Right now, while there is no official proposal on the table, only the scheduled meeting will determine whether he stays beyond this season or not.
