Having decided to sign a new goalkeeper immediately following the season-ending injury to Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona have now made up their mind as to who they wish to bring in.

As per the regulations, the Catalans can only sign players who are currently unattached and have been free agents since before the closure of the summer transfer window.

It left the club with limited options among which Keylor Navas and Wojciech Szczesny stood out. And Barça have now seemingly chosen who between the two they wish to sign.

Szczesny the chosen one

Now, according to SPORT, Barcelona have chosen Wojciech Szczesny as their target to replace Ter Stegen and are now working to convince him to come out of retirement.

Szczesny, 34, hung up his boots this past summer after his contract with Juventus expired, so that he could spend more time with his family.

However, reports earlier today suggested that he might be willing to make a U-turn and return to action if Barça were to come calling.

Now, it is being claimed that Barcelona will indeed try to coax him out of retirement and have already established initial contacts.

As per the report, one of the reasons why Barça have decided to go after Szczesny is because manager Hansi Flick likes him and he is younger than the other options like Keylor Navas or Antonio Adan.

Furthermore, the 34-year-old performed at a very high level last season which also appeals to the Catalans.

The challenge is now for Barcelona to convince him to come out of retirement and they are likely to enlist the help of Szczesny’s compatriot and ace goalscorer Robert Lewandowski to do so. After all the Poland captain shares a good relationship with the former Arsenal man.
