According to a report from SPORT, Joao Cancelo is on the verge of becoming a Barcelona player once again.

It is said that the Portuguese international is quite determined to join Barcelona, which is crucial in ensuring that the negotiations between the Blaugrana and Manchester City conclude successfully.

For now, Cancelo has turned down opportunities to go to Italy, despite several teams showing interest in him. Cancelo is adamant about not seeking any other ventures.

As a result, both clubs are under pressure to reach an agreement quickly, and negotiations are speeding up to finalize the deal.

Man City have tried to sell Cancelo

Manchester City have tried to offload Cancelo to several teams, aiming for a permanent transfer. However, their asking price of €25 million, combined with Cancelo’s high salary, has deterred many interested parties.

Juventus have been the most persistent in bidding for the full-back, as their new coach, Thiago Motta, wanted Cancelo as part of his project.

Nonetheless, Cancelo has no interest in returning to Italy. Recently, he mentioned that both he and his family are happy in Barcelona, and he wishes to stay there for another year.

Cancelo has cornered Man City

Given Cancelo’s firm stance, Manchester City recognise that he is blocking any potential offers from other clubs.

Consequently, they have begun working with Barcelona to finalise an agreement that benefits all parties involved. The English club is now open to a loan deal but insists on a mandatory purchase option to be activated by June 30, 2025.

On the other hand, Barcelona prefer a non-mandatory purchase option or one based on specific objectives. It appears that the agreement might be reached once Barcelona enter the 1:1 financial rule.

Both Deco and Hansi Flick see Cancelo as their preferred starting right-back, considering him the best option available in the market.

Cancelo hopes to avoid joining Manchester City’s pre-season and wishes to travel directly to Barcelona after his holidays. City manager Pep Guardiola also prefers this arrangement, as he has no plans for Cancelo in the team and wants the situation resolved swiftly.
