With just days remaining before the new season kicks off, Barcelona are scrambling to register their star players.

The likes of Inigo Martinez, Vitor Roque and new signing Dani Olmo are still yet to be registered. And as Barcelona slowly reduce their inflated wage bill, the club may have to gradually register each player one by one.

Flick prioritises Martinez registration

According to SPORT, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick wants the club to register Inigo Martinez before anyone else.

That means the German wants Martinez available at his disposal sooner than new summer signing Dani Olmo.

Flick argues that under the current circumstances, Martinez is more important to the Barcelona setup than Olmo.

That is primarily because the club face limited options in defence, especially with Ronald Araujo out injured and Pau Cubarsi coming back from a gruelling Olympic schedule.

Martinez’s presence, therefore, could prove to be critical. in the centre of the Barcelona defence.

Olmo, in contrast, has had very little training since his successful Euro 2024 campaign. He has, in fact, joined Barcelona on the back of virtually no training.

That means the Spaniard will not be available to play against Valencia even if he is registered to the first-team. This is why Flick is prioritising the registration of Martinez, whose experience and leadership could be crucial in leading an otherwise young Barcelona defence.

Once the Valencia game is over, though, Flick is likely to push for the registration of Dani Olmo as well.

The Spaniard, after all, is expected to become a vital cog in Barça’s creative unit, with Flick reportedly planning to deploy him as an attacking midfielder.
