With less than two weeks left before the summer transfer window closes, FC Barcelona have their work cut out to strengthen their squad in the coming days.

So far, the Catalans have only signed Pau Victor and Dani Olmo and are still hoping to add a left-winger and even a right-back if the right opportunity presents itself.

Joao Cancelo has been the priority when it comes to the right-back position after the Manchester City outcast spent the last season on loan in Catalonia.

However, a deal for the Portuguese has appeared complicated as Barça only want a loan arrangement while Man City are pushing for a permanent sale of the full-back.

Barcelona convinced Cancelo will rejoin on loan

However, now, SPORT reports that Barcelona are confident that they will be able to re-sign Joao Cancelo on another loan deal from Manchester City.

The Blaugrana club want the right-back in their sporting project and are keeping negotiations open with Manchester City to try to finalise a deal that is financially feasible.

The player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is currently in England and one of the issues he is making progress on is the Portuguese player’s departure to Barça.

Man City had been very firm in their stance of wanting a permanent transfer for Cancelo but as deadline day closes in, they are beginning to open the doors to a loan despite the fact that there are very strong offers from Saudi Arabia.

Cancelo has been adamant that he wants to continue at Barça and has made this clear publicly.

The Portuguese ace has already made it clear to Man City’s directors that his desire is to return to Barcelona for one more season and has asked for an agreement to be reached or he will remain in Manchester despite not playing.

Loan deal with a buy option the most feasible

Jorge Mendes has proposed various formulas to Manchester City, but in the end, the only viable one is a loan with a non-binding option to buy for a price of around €20 million in June with the possibility of payment in instalments.

Manchester City have always wanted to sell the player for more than €25 million and have been offering him to several Italian teams but have been unsuccessful. Clubs from Saudi Arabia are willing to meet their valuation but Cancelo does not wish to join.

As such, the deal between Barcelona and Manchester City could be completed by the end of the market.

However, the Catalans must first offload players and create salary space to register Cancelo, with exit operations likely to be focused on in the days to come.
